SRINAGAR, Oct 4: In a first J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages today released six books of businessman-turned-writer Hameed Siraj at a function held here.
Organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the book release function was presided over by writer, Ghulam Nabi Khayal while former PSC Chairman, Mohammed Shafi Pandit was the chief guest. Writer Hameed Siraj and Secretary Academy, Dr. Aziz Hajini were also in the presidium.
Prominent Kashmiri writer-critic, Ghulam Nabi Aatish and academician, Azharul Haque presented in-depth papers on Siraj’s books.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Nabi Khayal said that the work of Siraj was welcome in that it would provide Kashmiri children fresh literature with focus on current day world.
Chief guest, Mohammed Shafi Pandit while commending the effort of the author in writing books on children said that children’s literature needed to be promoted.
Earlier Secretary Academy, Dr Aziz Hajini said that the absence of collection of stories with children in focus was felt by literary circles and lovers of children’s literature.
“Upon coming to know that Siraj had written books on childrens literature which were yet to be released, we decided to host the function so that the work of the author could see light of the day and people too could benefit,” he said.
Convener Kashmiri Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, Mohammed Zaman Azurda appreciated effort of the Academy in highlighting work of the author.
Among others the event was attended by former newscaster, Abdul Rashid Banday, and columnist, Dr. Javaid Iqbal.
