JAMMU, Aug 18: Demanding exclusion of Urdu as compulsory descriptive paper in the entrance test for the post of Naib Tehsildars, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad has threatened to intensify agitation over the issue if the State Government does not review its controversial order in this regard.
Talking to media persons, here today, the ABVP State organizing secretary Pawan Sharma termed the Government decision on making Urdu as compulsory paper with 30 marks for the fresh selection of Naib Tehsildars in J&K as discriminatory against Jammu and Ladakh youth.
He also announced that in support of their demand, ABVP has decided to organize a Maha- Dharna tomorrow near Main Gate of Jammu University.
On the occasion, Pawan Sharma also informed that ABVP is going to launch its membership drive in all three regions of the State from August 20.
“The month-long membership drive will be completed in 3 phases. In 1st phase, students from 10+2 Schools will be joined while in 2nd and 3rd phase, students from College, Universities and professional colleges respectively will join ABVP,” he said and added that ABVP has fixed a target to make 50,000 members of the organization in J&K during this drive.
The press conference was also addressed by ABVP State joint secretary Abhinav Pandotra, Naina Dogra, Kanav Sharma, Sunil Chowdhari and Akash Sharma.
Meanwhile, reports from Udhampur said that ABVP activists took out a protest march in the town demanding immediate review of the Government order on Urdu in entrance test for the post of Naib Tehsildar. Shouting slogans against SSRB and in support of their demand, the protesting ABVP activists also tried to block ever busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Government Degree College Boys. However, Police foiled their attempt and took all of them into preventive custody for some time.
