JAMMU, Mar 14: Absconding Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander wanted in killing of 5 Village Defence Committee (VDC) members and seriously injuring four others was nabbed by Doda police today.
SSP Doda Zahid Manhas said that, on some reliable information, police team from Doda police station arrested absconding militant.
The accused has been identified as one Bashir Ahmed Lohar code Bilal, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lohar of Kashtigarh, tehsil Kuddhar, district Doda, he added.
The SSP further disclosed that the accused had crossed over to PoK in the year 1996 and after obtaining weapon training in Jangal Mangal training camp, Muzaffarbad, PoK, returned during the summer of 1997, adding that the accused remained continuously active in Kapran, Anantnag, Banihal, Doda, Kishtwar areas till December 2008 and was operating as divisional commander of HM outfit.
He further stated that the accused was wanted in a case registered under FIR number 115/97 under Sections 302, 307, 395 RPC and 7/27 Arms Act with police station Doda, adding that the case is subjudice before the Court of District and Sessions Judge Bhaderwah.
The SSP said that the accused along with other militants of HM outfit had killed 5 VDC members and seriously injured four others. He added that the challan of the case was produced before the court of law on May 28, 1998 and proceedings under Section 512 CrPC were initiated by the Court against the arrested HM divisional commander and others.
The accused was arrested in execution of the warrant under Section 512 CrPC issued by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Doda on May 28, 1998, Mr Manhas added.
Earlier, on December 23, 2008, Bilal was arrested by District Police Udhampur and after facing trial in different cases, he was bailed out on April 24, 2014 by the District and Sessions Court Kishtwar, SSP stated.
