JAMMU, Sept 1: Giving yet another jolt, several senior Congress leaders including HL Abrol, S Kirtan Singh, Vicky Mahajan, former Councillors of Local Bodies, besides scores of district and block functionaries , PRI members from Jammu, R S Pura, Hiranagar, Udhampur and Chenani today resigned from the party to join Azad group.
Sources said that at least 61 Congress functionaries resigned from the primary membership of the party and forwarded the same to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and JKPCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani. Most of them hail from Jammu and RS Pura area and left the party along with H L Abrol, Kirtan Singh, Vicky Mahajan, Parveen Singh former Block president and others.
Prominent among them included – Vinod Manhas, N S Mehta, Nirmandeep Singh PYC general secretary, Chanchal Popli (Block vice president), Balwant Singh, Ranjeet Chopra (PYC gen secy),Titus Gill (DCC Jammu gen secy), Sushil Bhagat (district president PYC Samba), Santosh Majotra (former DDC member), Anoop Khajuria (former PYC gen secy), Brinder Partap Singh, Mohinder Singh; Manjeet Singh (Ward president Nanak Nagar), Deedar Singh and others.
These leaders have submitted their resignation to support their mentor and visionary leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has resigned from all positions of Congress party to start a new political journey for the benefit of citizens of Jammu & Kashmir and the people of India. They have expressed their faith in the leadership of Azad.
From Udhampur, Chenani and Pancheri area at least 23 more Congress leaders, DCC/BCC functionaries and PRI members resigned from the Congress party in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad. They include Ex-Councillor BM Sharma, Ex-Distt president DYC Sanjeev Dubey, BCC president Chenani-Neeraj Thappa, Raj Sharma- president BCC Udhampur, Hans Raj Sarpanch, BCC president Mongri; RTR Baigra, Sarpanch Manmohan Raina, Sarpanch Kuldeep Singh, Sarpanch Mohd Sharief, Naib Sarpanch Gautam and others.
From Hiranagar Block Congress Unit, at least 18 Congress leaders and functionaries/ PRI members resigned from Congress Party in presence of their leader -Subhash Gupta, former MLC. Prominent among them include- Tilak Raj- Sarpanch, Ram Lal Sharma-Ex-Sarpanch, Sat Paul Choudhary Ex-Sarpanch, Swarn Singh- Distt vice president Youth wing Kathua, Mohd Muneer BCC gen secy, Sham Lal Panch, Paramjit Saini, president Kissan Cell Hiranagar and others.
