SRINAGAR, Jan 12: Vice President of Aam Aadmi Party in Kashmir province, Er Nazir Yatoo has asked Election Commission of India to clarify stance on holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to end uncertainty that has been created by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders by issuing statement on holding Assembly polls in J&K.
Issuing a statement while interacting with the party workers, Er Nazir Yatoo said that holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir is a demand of every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir and people are eagerly waiting for announcement of dates of elections so that democratic setup can get restored.
He however said that Election Commission of India is silent on demand for elections in Jammu and Kashmir and is attaining a mute spectator approach on this.
“On one hand people are waiting for ECI stance on holding Assembly elections but there is no statement from the Commission while on the other hand, BJP is issuing statement that elections will be held shortly and this statement is creating a situation of uncertainty,” Yatoo said.
He said that mandate for holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is in the hands of ECI which is silent on schedule of elections but the BJP leaders are making media statements that elections will be held soon.
Er Nazir Yatoo said that the BJP statement on holding elections in J&K shows the party leadership is taking decisions which otherwise are to be taken by ECI.
He further said that democracy in Jammu and Kashmir is dying a death due to BJP as it wants to rule J&K through its proxy LG Administration rule and just to continue with this, BJP is delaying polls which is overall hampering the life of every common citizen.
“Public grievances redressal system has come to a standstill and there is no one to listen to the plight of common masses and in this situation delaying Assembly elections is another blow below the belt,” he said.
Er Nazir Yatoo reiterated that Aam Aadmi Party has always vowed for restoration of democratic setup in Jammu and Kashmir so that people can elect their own democratic Government and find takers of their grievances.
