Aaliyah’s biopic will explore her illegal marriage to R Kelly

LONDON, June 25: R&B star Aaliyah’s lifetime biopic will explore her illegal marriage to singer R Kelly.
The biopic, which will be released next year, will mention about the late singer’s affair with Kelly, 47, who mentored her and produced her first album, ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number’, reported The Daily Mirror.
“Aaliyah’s personal and professional relationship with R Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect,” executive producer Debra Martin Chase said.
There were reports that Kelly, then 27 and Aaliyah, then 15, were dating each other shortly after her debut album released, although they denied.
But a marriage certificate was later discovered, with Aaliyah falsely listed as aged 18. The union was apparently annulled by the singer’s parents.
The pop star was killed in 2001 in a Bahamas plane crash, when she was only 22.
Her biopic, which has reportedly been opposed by Aaliyah’s family, will feature Disney star Zendaya in the lead role and covers the singer’s life from ten years old until her death. (PTI)
