Aadhar centers closed

Officially no reason has been assigned to the order of the Registrar General of India ordering on behalf of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAI), closure of 344 Aadhar Card enrollment centers in the State of J&K with immediate effect. However, unofficially it is learnt that the contract period with two outsourced agencies, namely Compac Info Technologies and M/s Chinar has ended and the Government intends to enter into contract with new agencies with new conditionality.
Aadhar Card is the most important document which every Indian citizen has to keep with him. The Indian Government has made elaborate and extensive arrangements for issuing these cards. In J&K State where the work of issuing the cards began in 2013 almost 90 per cent of population has been issued these cards and only ten per cent remain to be issued. Sudden stoppage of issuance of cards will put the remaining ten per cent to difficulty. But more than that, about 700 enumerators who were engaged for the work will be thrown out of work. When the issuing will be resumed is a matter of speculation. But the difficulties which it is going to cause to the people still in the process of receiving Aadhar cards will multiply. In particular since after demonetization people are required to produce Aadhar cards for withdrawals or exchange and those not in possession of these cards will be put to great difficulty.
We would, therefore, suggest the Government to keep all these difficulties of people in view and make arrangements for resumption of issuing the cards without even a day’s delay as it put people in difficult situation. We hope that it will not be made an unnecessary issue.
