A new era of welfare state

Sir,
Dr Ashwani Mahajan’s insightful piece, “Beginning of a New Welfare State” deserves all appreciation. His analysis of the recent state elections and the changing dynamics of welfare policies offers a fresh perspective.
The electorate’s rejection of mere freebies in favour of genuine welfare initiatives, such as housing schemes, Ujjwala, electricity access, and healthcare under Ayushman Yojana, demonstrates a shift in voter preferences.
Dr Mahajan aptly highlights the transformative impact of these targeted initiatives, freeing beneficiaries from deprivation. The evolving definition of a welfare state, focused on genuine development, is resonating with voters. It’s encouraging to witness India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
