Increasing air pollution

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Air pollution increasing in J&K but deptts ill-equipped…… DE April 11.
It seems we are not very much interested in keeping our environment pollution free. The air pollution level is increasing day by day with opening of new industrial units and growing number of vehicles on roads.
The air pollution levels are more in Jewel Chowk and Bikram Chowk as these chowks witness frequent traffic jams.
The increase in pollution is also due to old vehicles which run on roads day and night. There was a time when Government had ordered for  phasing out of old fleet of vehicles. In initial stage, the Government was steadfast on its policy decision but later on showed no inclination to live by its decision for reasons known to it.
Unless Government takes stringent measures against those industrial units polluting environment and those unwilling to stop running old vehicles, no change will be discernible. Besides, fuel adulteration must be checked without any loss of time.
Those  found guilty of adultering fuel should be punished under due process of law.
Yours etc….
