Protest against police after teacher beaten up, DIG assures action

RAJOURI, June 25: People held strong protest after a teacher was beaten up by cops at Police Post Rajouri City here today.
Reports said trouble started after teacher Vinod Sharma had gone to the Police Post Rajouri, to inquire into the matter related to a theft case. He had some arguments with Munshi of the Police Post. Then the Munshi and three other cops allegedly beaten up the teacher and also torn his shirt. The matter when came to the notice of locals of the area, they assembled outside the post in large number and started protest.
The people also held protests at Kallar Chowk and Muradpur Chowk and blocked road for some time. They were demanding suspension of the cops and registration of FIR against them. A large number of women also joined protest dharna.
Later, DIG and SSP Rajouri also reached the spot. They listened to the protesting people and assured fair probe into the matter. On the assurance of action by DIG, the public lifted dharna.
