RAJOURI, June 19: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) in a programme organized here today reiterated its demand for security to elected Panchayat members.
The programme was organized by the district Rajouri unit of AJKPC. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh was the chief guest in the programme while the AJKPC UT president Anil Sharma presided over the function.
During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the elected Panchayat members including BDC chairpersons and listened to the problems being faced by them in carrying out their day to day activities.
“We appeal to the Government especially ADGP (Security) that the security of Panchayat members should be a priority and an immediate security audit should be conducted. We are ready to provide the list of Panchayat members who are vulnerable to the present situation,” Anil Sharma said while addressing the gathering.
A similar programme was organised by the district Poonch president of AJKPC Mohd Aslam Kohli who vowed to work for strengthening of democracy at grassroots level. Speaking on the occasion, the elected Panchayat members including BDCs raised concern over arrogance of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch and said that he has never taken the elected representatives of the people on board.
In his address, the AJKPC president urged the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to immediately remove the Deputy Commissioner and appoint new “people-friendly” officer who knows how to deal with the public and elected representatives.
