UDHAMPUR, June 17: Alleging failure of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in providing adequate water supply to them, the residents of Christian Colony today held a massive protest and blocked the road.
The protestors raised slogans against the PHE Department and District administration Udhampur. They alleged that due to callous approach of the concerned department, people of the area were suffering and their normal life was also getting affected.
The protesters were led by Counselor Asha Devi who explained that said that the new pipes were sent by the PHE Department to Christian Colony around 4 years back but the same were never installed with the result that these pipes have now rotten without use.
“We have repeatedly brought the matter into the notice of the concerned authorities but all in vain. “Even we have staged protests many times to highlight our grievance but no action was taken in this regard till date and the water supply is still extremely poor as it used to be, making people face the worst,” they said.
Later, AEE, JE PHE Department and SHO Udhampur reached the spot. They pacified the protestors by assuring that the work will start from tomorrow .
The protesting people were addressed by Ravi Das, Kaka Husan, Nitu, Vijay Teji, Gutam Kumar, Rasalu Ram Shushil and David Sandhu.
