JAMMU, Apr 23: While condemning the alleged harassment of Kashmiris stranded in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and former MLC, Ghulam Nabi Monga today urged the Government of India and other State Governments to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiris stranded in different parts of the country due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
In a statement issued to the press here today Monga said in one more unfortunate incident some miscreants had attacked some labourers from Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district in Koldam area of Himachal Pardesh.
“I spoke to concerned police officer, who said he had taken action by arresting two persons. The stranded labourers from Nambla, Salamabad and Limber villages of Uri, who were attacked, have been kept in a school. But these labourers are still feeling unsafe,” Monga said.
The Congress leader demanded immediate and strict action against the culprits who attacked these labourers. “I received calls from Nizam-ud-Din and Jeelani Khan, the heads of two groups of labourers in Himachal Pradesh, who said they are being continuously harassed. The Government must take immediate steps to get back these stranded labourers to Kashmir,” he demanded.
“At a time when the entire country is fighting a global pandemic from inside their homes, with their families, these poor people should not be left to rot in far away places where they are being attacked by some communals ,” Monga added.
The Congress leader also urged the Government that thousands of Kashmiris which includes, students, labourers, traders, critically ill patients and their attendants, who are struck in different parts of the country, especially north India, must be brought back to the Valley. “The miseries of these stranded people amid coronavirus pandemic and lockdown have worsened. Special transport arrangements must be made for them and after their return, due COVID protocols must be followed,” Monga added.
