Khan reviews preparedness for coronavirus in Kargil

KARGIL, Mar 5: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan today convened an urgent meeting regarding measures to deal with Coronavirus in the district.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, SSP Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Deputy Commander 121 Infantry Brigade, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, representatives of religious and social organizations, doctors and concerned district officers attended the meeting.
The CEC took stock of the arrangements for the screening of passengers at the entry points at Kargil Airport, Khangral, Sanjak and Garkone and also inquired about the preparedness in terms of isolation wards and ventilator management of patients with severe respiratory illness at District Hospital Kargil and other health institutions.
Khan instructed the officers concerned to be prepared to activate the highest level of emergency response mechanism for early containment in case of a COVID-19 outbreak. He also stressed on enforcing rigorous application of infection prevention and control measures at homes, offices and schools.
Meanwhile, the doctors present in the meeting informed that the spread of Coronavirus can be contained through non-pharmaceutical measures like rapid detection, large scale case isolation and quarantine of contacts.
The CEC appealed to the representatives of religious organizations, preachers, doctors, teachers and community leaders to educate the general population about COVID-19, its mode of transmission and spreading, symptoms, preventive measures and other related aspects.
The CEC said that although no positive cases of Coronavirus has been reported in the district but people should be well aware about COVID-19 and its mode of transmission and spreading, symptoms, preventive measures and other related aspects and the officers concerned should ensure that the health staff is well trained and prepared to deal with the virus.
Feroz Khan instructed the concerned to intensify screening at entry points besides to enhance surveillance. He also said that passengers should be asked about their travel history, symptoms and any history of contact with a suspected or confirmed case.
