JAMMU, Feb 11: Expressing concern over non-uniform distribution of Consultant and Senior Consultant posts across the Union Territory of J&K, Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ) today urged upon the UT administration to create new Consultant and Senior Consultant posts across J&K to bring uniformity in distribution.
“There is uneven distribution and apparent discrepancy in number and distribution of different Consultant posts across J&K,” DAJ president, Dr Balwinder Singh said. He regretted that there is no Senior Consultant post for Anaesthesia, Dermatology and Psychiatry in J&K health services while there is only one Senior Consultant post for Radiology, Pediatrics and few Senior Consultants in Orthopaedics.
Terming the non-uniform distribution of Consultant and Senior Consultant posts across the Union territory as pathetic, he made a fervent appeal to Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to J&K LG and Financial Commissioner, H&MED, Atal Dulloo to bring uniformity in distribution by creating new Consultant and Senior Consultant posts across J&K.
“He also stressed for time bound promotion in J&K Health Services, alleging that Consultants are waiting for more than 10 years for their first promotion,” a release issued by DAJ said.
Dr Balwinder said there are not many doctors working as Medical Officers with MD and MS degrees but they are not examining the patient of their specialties, thus forgetting their surgical as well academic skills while on the other hand, patients in peripheral hospitals are not getting specialized treatment and they have to travel to cities to get specialized treatment.
“Therefore, DAJ requests the Advisor and the Financial Commissioner to look into the matter and issue an order that Medical Officers with MS and MD degrees will look after their concern specialty in all peripheral hospitals of the UT,” the DAJ president added.
