JAMMU, Jan 16: Up in arms against the IGNOU authorities in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K ReT Teachers’ Forum held a strong protest, here today.
Alleging that due to the harassing attitude of the Jammu IGNOU, two B Ed papers were unnecessarily cancelled and thus thousands of teachers were made to suffer, the protesters demanded immediate revocation of paper cancellation order and also shifting of the IGNOU staff from Jammu.

Led by Vinod Sharma, UT president of the Forum, a large number of teachers assembled outside the Press Club Jammu and also tried to march towards Regional Center of IGNOU. However, Police did not allow them to precede further following which the protesting teachers held a demonstration there.
Addressing the gathering, Vinod Sharma alleged that due to mismanagement of IGNOU authorities, two papers have been cancelled and Examination Centres were fixed only at District Headquarters thereby forcing the teachers of far flung areas to travel long distance to reach the centres and even they had to hire rooms to stay. He also alleged that in District Reasi no center was established and teachers had to travel hundreds of kilometers to reach Jammu. Last year too teachers from other districts were harassed by establishing their centres at Mahore, he added.
He also accused the IGNOU authorities of ignoring all rules of the university as the Date sheet of B Ed exams was uploaded only three days before the examinations and Hall tickets were uploaded just two days prior to the exam. Also the study materials were not provided to the teachers, which shows the harassing attitude of the IGNOU authorities, he further said adding that till date, no classes (2nd year) have been arranged for B Ed aspirants.
Others, who addressed the gathering, included Sukhdev Singh Sumbria, Gulzabir Daing, Rajesh Jamwal, Sham Sharma, Surjit Singh, Manzoor Khan, Surinder Khajuria, Balbir Bhagat, Subash Chander, Pankaj Verma, Balwan Singh, Mohd Yousuf Shah, Ashaq Jaral, Aamiet Wani, Sabir Seikh, Mohd Mumtaz, Gulam Nabi and Hukum Chand.
