Aware farmers about centrally sponsored schemes: Peerzada, Bhalla

JAMMU, Mar 17: Minister for Hajj, Auqaf, Public Enterprises and Floriculture, Peerzada Mohammad Syed today emphasized introducing the latest technology in all productive sectors like agriculture, horticulture and floriculture aiming at increasing the socio-economic conditions of the farming community, adding that this is the only key source to ensure prosperity of the State in general and farming community in particular.
This was stated by the Minister at Chatha here today after inaugurating the Kissan Mela and flower show in its experimental field station.
Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla was also present on the occasion.
Saying that floriculture is among the priorities of Government, he urged for evincing keen interest in these sector for bringing change in the life style of people. He appealed the growers to avail benefits from the schemes launched by the Government.
He said Government has launched several Centre and State sponsored schemes with a aim to uplift the farming community, adding that focused attention is being given to promote the floriculture sector as it has a huge potential in the State but need is to channelize it in a proper way. He said the Government is also focused to providing hi-yielding seeds to the farmers but need is to cultivate cash crops.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that such Melas make farmers aware about latest technology and also its use for boosting the crop and its cultivation.
Mr. Bhalla expressed hope that the deliberations held during the Mela will prove beneficial to the participants and will pave way for bringing  about excellence in Agriculture and Floriculture sector.
Earlier, Peerzada and Bhalla went round various stalls demonstrating modern machinery equipments, implements, tools, pesticides of various brands and together with their usage. They took keen interest in observing the usage of the modern equipments.
Director Floriculture, Jammu K.K. Sharma also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the activities of the department.
During the inaugural address, Director, IIIM, Jammu Dr. Ram Vishwakarma informed the audience about the aims and objectives of the Mela and the activities of the IIIM.
In the valedictory function of Flower Show-cum-Kissan Mela, Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora was the chief guest and he distributed prizes among the winners of flower show in different category.
Channi Himmat-Green Belt Park was adjudged as third best park in Jammu in the public park category keeping in view the overall landscaping, plantation, flowers and allied facilities.
The park has been developed under the able guidance/instructions of Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla, who has  already issued instructions to the authorities of J&K Housing Board to ensure that park  is developed with facilities like sprinkler system, illumination, benches, open air theatre, landscaping, walkway, mali/chowkidar hut, toilet block, reading room, Badminton room, gym, canteen,  food courts, water coolers and exercise point at the earliest to facilitate people to utilize their spare time for exercise and walks in the park.
Kiran Wattal, Managing Director, J&K Housing Board giving overview about Green Belt Park informed that the park has been developed by the J&K Housing Board over an area of about 57 Kanals with full cooperation of the residents of the colony by salvaging the land from the encroachers. Ram Pal Sharma, Secretary, J&K Housing Board, Reyaz Ahmed Jeelani, DGM, Housing Board, Pooja Wazir, Sr. Manager and Yogesh Sharma,Senior Programmer also attended the function.
