DC visits Gulmarg to review post fire incident situation

BARAMULLA, Nov 4: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr. G N Itoo today visited Gulmarg to review post fire situation in which Hotel Hilltop was partially damaged.
DDC was accompanied by Director Tourism and other concerned officers.
He was informed that the fire incident happened due to short-circuit in which 36 out of 56 rooms of the hotel were damaged. He was further informed that all the tourists were safely evacuated.
Later, the DC convened a meeting with the concerned officers to discuss disaster preparedness and other safety measures needed to be applied in times of eventualities so that loss of life and property is minimized. The meeting also discussed various modalities to revive the tourism in Gulmarg.
DC stressed upon the officers to put in place a viable disaster management plan for combating the eventualities. He said that all the functionaries working in various hotels shall be imparted the requisite training.
Meanwhile, it was informed that about 12000 tourists including 600 foreign tourists arrived in Gulmarg after the government withdrew the 2nd August advisory.
Later, the DDC visited PHC Tangmarg to review the construction work on the health centre building that was damaged in landslide. He directed the concerned officers to ramp up the pace of work so that project is completed within set time-frame.
He was informed that the health centre was shifted to an alternative place and delivered health-care services in a hassle-free manner.
