UDHAMPUR, July 18: Expressing concern over dumping of all city waste at Tawi River here, former MLA and Panthers Party President, Balwant Singh Mankotia today called on National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairman, Justice (Retd.), Adarsh Kumar Goel and submitted him a memorandum.
Mankotia apprised Goel about the dumping of city waste by Municipal Council Udhampur and also dumping of muck by Gammon Construction Company at Tawi River.
He said that NGT should act sternly against dumping at Tawi River site in Kheri near Jakhani as same is continuing from the last four years polluting the environment and putting general public health at risk as water supply is made to the whole Udhampur city from river Tawi.
Mankotia further said that the dumping station is hardly 500 meter from the city and is adjoining to Jammu-Srinagar National Highway making a mockery of ‘Swachh Bharat’.
Chairman NGT assured for early action against dumping at river site.
