JAMMU, July 17: J&K Handicapped Association held a meeting here, today which was convened by the president of the Association Abdul Rashid Bhat.
Various issues pertaining to differently abled persons were discussed in the meeting which accused the Government of ignoring the genuine issues of differently abled people in the State.
The meeting said, in other States the differently abled persons are enjoying equal rights and care from Government but the persons with disabilities in J&K are ignored and discriminated against.
Abdul Rashid Bhat president of the Association said the benefits to be given to differently abled persons under the Act passed by Union Government in 2016 the passage of which was delayed for two years by J&K Government the differently abled persons are still deprived of its benefits, the Act has already been passed in the other states of the country.
He said the differently abled persons are still deprived of its benefits in the State despite the fact that the Association representatives met every one in the Government.
He said the authorities said that the problems of the differently abled persons will be solved and rules in this regard will be framed soon but till date nothing was done.
As per the act the rules for the same should be framed within six month’s of its passage but the same has been delayed in J&K.
He said during the recent programme at SKICCC named as Sensitization Programme-Access to All on July 1 and 2. In this programme Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department Rohit Kansal had assured during the programme that rules will be framed within 10 days but nothing was done till date.
He warned that the Association will launch hunger strike on August 10 if the issue was not settled till August 9.
