SRINAGAR, June 13: Central Police Welfare Committee (CPWC) today enhanced cash relief for the next of kin of the police personnel who died in service from Rs 15 lakh to 20 lakh and increased retirement gift from existing Rs 60,000 to Rs 75, 000.
These decisions were taken during 14th meeting of CPWC held here today which was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and attended by ADGPs B Srinivas, AK Choudhary, AG Mir, Munir Ahmad Khan, IGPs SD Singh, Danesh Rana, JP Singh, Vijay Kumar, Alok Kumar, Surinder Gupta and Ahfadul Mujtaba.
Various landmark decisions were taken during the meeting including enhancement in special welfare relief from Rs 15 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs (inclusive of immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh) payable to NoK of subscriber in the event of his death while in service, enhancement in retirement gift from existing scale of Rs 60,000 to Rs 75,000, revival of meritorious scholarship for wards of GOs with immediate effect and enhancement of powers for sanctioning of welfare loan to various welfare Committees.
Some other decisions which were taken in the meeting include enhancement of relief to SPOs seriously injured during law and order duties from Rs 1 lakh upto Rs 1.50 lakh, provision of suitable financial assistance up to Rs 50,000 for the treatment of SPOs and their dependents suffering from life terminal ailments, enhancement in financial aid for marriage of daughter of martyred police personnel and SPOs from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000, introduction of scholarships schemes for the wards of martyred SPOs on the scales as applicable to wards of police martyrs, provision of revival of Bara Khana to boost the morale of jawans up to Rs 50,000, enhancement of special relief payable to NoKs of SPO (in the event of his death while in service) from Rs 2.50 lakh to Rs 5.00 lakh (inclusive of immediate relief of Rs 50,000).
The meeting began with observation of one-minute silence in order to pay homage to the martyrs of yesterday terror attack at Anantnag.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Dilbag Singh said that the decisions taken today in the open house by the representatives of the welfare committees of different units across the different wings will go a long way in providing more help and assistance to the police personnel in the time of need.
The DGP impressed upon the DDOs to ensure speedy disposal of the matters pertaining to the NoKs of martyrs particularly employment issues. He stressed upon the special welfare and care of retired police persons, SPOs and their families. He said that many proposals including those of pay anomaly, availability of posts, referral of injured police personnel to outside and providing air ambulance for shifting of seriously injured police personnel for special treatment outside State have been submitted to Government.
Earlier, ADGP Headquarters PHQ AG Mir presented the inaugural address, whereas AIG (Welfare) Manoj Kumar Pandita placed the agenda for the welfare meeting before the house and also presented the balance sheets of the welfare accounts.
Besides senior officers of the department, representatives from all units and districts of the department participated in the meeting and put forth their views and suggestions for the introduction and strengthening of different welfare measure.
