World Orthodontic Health Day celebrated in IGG Dental College

JAMMU, May 15: World Orthodontic Health Day was celebrated today in Department of Orthodontics, Indira Gandhi Government (IGG) Dental College.
This day is celebrated by Orthodontic associations around the world on May 15. In association with Indian Orthodontic Society, an essay writing competition on the subject “Braces for Health or Braces for Beauty” was organized in the orthodontic department of the College, wherein BDS students, Interns and House Surgeons participated.
In addition, a unique painting and model making competition (incorporating orthodontic wire and their skilled bending) was organized in the department. The winners of all the competitions were awarded. Dr Sneh Kalgotra, lecturer orthodontics, helped in overall organizing of the event.
Dr Akshay Gupta, Head, Department of Orthodontics, this day is celebrated not for only good looks but also to raise awareness about the importance of straight teeth in overall health of individual and to promote the science/speciality of Orthodontics to solve this problem.
He said that two best essays selected by the department from today’s competition will be forwarded to the IOS Secretariat for consideration for winning in national level.
