RAMBAN, Apr 7: Ramban Police today achieved a major success by arresting three interstate drug peddlers and recovering 100 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) from their possession.
On specific information, a special naka was laid at T Chowk in Banihal area and checking and frisking was intensified. During the process of checking, at 4 AM in the morning one truck coming from Valley side bearing registration number JK05E-6302 was signaled to stop and was put to thorough checking.
During search of the truck, one bag filled with 20 kg poppy straw was recovered from the truck. The driver of the truck was identified as Mohd Iqbal son of Bashir Ahmed Tantry, resident of Drusoo (Baramulla).
Accordingly, a case FIR No 43 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at police station Banihal.
In another case, a specific information was received from reliable sources that two Punjab based smugglers have brought drug consignment from Valley by train. Accordingly, a special naka was laid at Railway Crossing. During checking and frisking, two persons carrying two gunny bags were put to search during which 80 kg of bhukki was recovered from the duo.
The duo was identified as Gurmail Singh alias Sonu son of Baldev Singh, resident of Mundi, tehsil Sultanpur, district Kapoorthala, Punjab and Sukhdev Singh son of Surjeet Singh, resident of Raikot, tehsil Aitiana, district Ludhiana. Accordingly, a case FIR No 44 under Section 8/15 NDPS stands registered at police station Banihal.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the trio had brought the consignment from Sangam area of Valley.
The arrest and recovery was made by a police team headed by Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani, SHO police station Banihal under the supervision of Sajjad Sarwar, SDPO Banihal, Sanjay Parihar, Additional SP Ramban and overall supervision of Anita Sharma, SSP Ramban.
