Director Agri inspects tail end areas of Ranbir Canal

JAMMU, Mar 29: To ensure the timely supply of Irrigation water during the upcoming Summer/Kharif season, Director Agriculture, Jammu, P. S. Rathore along with team of officers from Departments of Agriculture, Irrigation & Flood Control (I & FC) conducted an extensive tour of Bishnah and Chak Hassal areas to inspect the on-going desilting works on Ranbir Canal and its distributaries. He was accompanied by Vinod Gupta, Chief Engineer, I & FC, Jammu, Bulesh Kumar Zutshi, Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), Jammu, Ashwani Anand, SE, I & FC, Jammu, S. K. Langer, Incharge Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu and Surinder Abrol, Ex-Engineer, I & FC besides others.
Director Agriculture Jammu while interacting with the farmers on the occasion said that department is fully aware of the irrigation related problems and all out efforts are being made to ensure the assured and timely supply of irrigation water to the tail end areas of Ranbir Canal. While expressing satisfaction over the progress of desilting works, Rathore asked the engineers to speed up the pace of the desilting and repair work so that the water is released in the canal at the earliest. He was apprised on the occasion that there is need of extensive repair the canal to check the seepage and percolation losses of the water. The flow of irrigation water in the distributaries also slows down due to polythene and other domestic wastes being dumped by public which needs cleaning operations after regular intervals.
Director Agriculture advised the concerned Engineers of the I & FC Department to formulate comprehensive DPRs for extensive renovation of Ranbir Canal which is irrigation lifeline of Basmati Growing Belt of Jammu. Once these DPRs are formulated, the funding options can be explored at appropriate levels, he added.
Later on, Director Agriculture also interacted with the field functionaries of Agriculture Department and exhorted upon them to put their best efforts for the welfare of farming community.
