JAMMU, Feb 13: Army organised a capacity building tour for 20 Sarpanchs and ex-servicemen from Rajouri and Poonch districts to Pune, Chennai, Pondicherry and New Delhi which started today and will remain there till Mar 1.
The tour was flagged off today by the General Officer Commanding, Ace of Spades Division from Rajouri District.
The flagging off ceremony was attended by officials of civil administration and by local populace of Rajouri District including family members of the participants. Army officials addressed all the participants of the tour and wished them Bon Voyage.
During the course of the tour, the participants will visit the model villages of Hiware Bazaar & Ralegaon Sidhi, where they will witness implementation of Self-Governance concept through Panchayati Raj System.
A close interaction with Anna Hazare is also being planned. The next leg of the jaunt will take the participants to Chennai where the Unmukt workshop will be held.
This event will give the participants an opportunity to learn self-sustainability skills through group discussions and activities.
They will further be visiting Sustainable Livelihood Institute in Pondicherry, where a small workshop regarding Rural Self-Governance model will be conducted.
The tour will conclude at New Delhi where the participants will be accorded the privilege of meeting senior military and civil dignitaries to include the Chief of the Army Staff. They will also be provided an insight into the rich heritage of country during visits to the well-known monuments like India Gate and Raj Ghat.
