Two fake militants arrested for threatening Panchayat members

Srinagar, Feb 6: Even as a Sarpanch in South Kashmir today received a fresh threat from unknown persons, police today arrested two persons who were posing as militants and issuing threats to Panchayat members.
Police today arrested 2 persons in Dooru area of South Kashmir who were issuing threats to the people in the area. Police identified them as Mohammad Yousuf Khan son of Mohammad Shafi Khan and Abdul Rashid Rai, son of Gulam Mohd Rai of Ranchougund Dooru, South Kashmir.
Police said that these two persons were posing themselves as Harkatul Jehadi Islami (HUJI) militants and were threatening Panchs and Sarpanchs of the area.
Police said that their threatening posters and direct threats were responsible for resignations of Panchs and Sarpanchs in the Dooru area of South Kashmir. Police have also recovered posters and fake stamps from them. Police are conducting the investigations to find if there are any of their accomplices.
In the meantime a Sarpanch identified as Ghulam Qadir Parray, son of Abdul Gaffar Parray of Jablipora Bijbehera today lodged a complaint in the Police Station Bijbehara South Kashmir that he was threatened by unknown militants.
Parray told police that he has received an anonymous letter in which he was asked to pay Rs 3 lakh in 5 days or face consequences. Police has registered a case and are investigating the matter.
