JAMMU, Feb 6: Intensifying their struggle, the Non-Gazetted Employees Union in Jammu University today increased duration of its token protest for one more hour and announced to go on indefinite strike from February 11.
Decision to go on indefinite strike was taken after failure of talks with the JU authorities today. The talks were held between leaders of NGEU and a committee, headed by Dr D L Choudhary this afternoon.
“We have decided to go on indefinite strike from Monday if the University does not concede our three main demands,” Krishan Chand, president of NGEU, informed the Excelsior.
The protesting employees are demanding regularization of contractual workers who have been serving the university for more than seven years, due promotions to the class IV employees etc.
Earlier, on third consecutive day of their token strike today, the Class-IV employees and contractual workers suspended work from 10 a.m to 1 p.m and held a demonstration in front of the Administration block. They raised slogans against the JU administration and in support of their demands.
Holding placards and raising slogans, they also took out a protest rally on the campus before staging a dharna outside the administration block.
Some leaders of Non-Gazetted Employees Union also addressed the protesting employees and accused the JU authorities of forcing them to resort to agitational path.
The rally was addressed by Krishan Chand Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Mulakh Raj and others.
