JAMMU, Nov 22: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul today awarded 25 years RI to Paramjeet Singh of Jallandhar as 100 bags of poppy straw was recovered from him.
“While awarding sentence certain important facts are to be taken into consideration i.e the previous conduct of the accused, nature of the offence and effect of the commission of such offence on the society as well as the health of the young generation and as to how the menace of drug has spoiled the youth”, court said.
“The menace of drug is the major threat to the society at large and economy of the country. It has taken away lives of large number of children and has destroyed many families besides increasing the crime rate”, the court further said, adding “as is established from the evidence, the accused had been previously involved in the contravention of the provisions of the NDPS Act and had been found in possession of the narcotic substances”.
With these observations, Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul awarded rigorous imprisonment for a period of 25 years to the accused namely Paramjeet Singh.
