JAMMU, Nov 11: Shahnawaz Choudhary, general secretary of Pradesh Congress has questioned the utility and aim of the Half Jammu Marathon that was organised in Jammu today.
Shahnawaz, in a statement issued from the Congress office, said,” The marathon was an elitist affair with majority of participants from well to do families.
“The fees for the marathon went from Rs 750 to Rs 1500. I wonder how many in Jammu can actually spare this kind of money. It is difficult for athletes from a normal family to give high registration fees”, Congress leader said.
He said that there was a big line of sponsors who powered the event where was that money used and above all a hefty registration fee was also charged. This marathon became a photo opportunity for a few but the genuine runners remained away, he added and appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to get the matter inquired into so that these trends of page 3 glamour may not rob the genuine athletes from humble families of their due honour.
