POONCH, Oct 29: At least 42 members of eight families were rendered shelterless after a major fire incident at village Dogrian in Surankote area of district Poonch last mid night.
Official sources said that due to suspected short circuit, the kucha houses of heads of families- Vilayat Khan and Qayoom Khan and their six sons caught fire when they were fast asleep at around 1 am. All the members ran away for their safety in panic but entire house hold articles and other valuables were reduced to ashes.

The locals of the area rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire but all the houses/ structures had already been engulfed in high flames. Vilayat Khan said that they had purchased many articles for the marriage of his daughter and it was kept in a room. All those articles were also burnt.
The locals alleged that Fire tender from Surankote could not arrive due to non-filling of water storage tanks in time. It arrived late and started operation but the houses had already been burnt. The local administration has ordered inquiry.
Today morning, SDM Surankote Mohd Saleem, SDPO Reyaz Ahmed, Tehsildar Surankote also visited the spot and provided some immediate assistance to the shelterless families. They have taken refuge in the adjoining few houses.
