Siar Baba mishap toll rises to 8

JAMMU, July 17:  Death toll in Siar Baba tragedy rose to eight as a female injured in the mishap that took place on last Sunday, succumbed her wounds at hospital today.
The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Babli Devi of Gangyal, Jammu, was undergoing treatment at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, where she succumbed to her injuries, early this morning, Police said, adding that condition of other injured was stated to be stable.
Seven persons had died and 33 others were injured when a huge boulder had rolled down 400-feet high Siar Baba waterfall at Talwara, around 10 kms from the Reasi town, on July 15 afternoon.  The incident had happened when a large number of people, mostly  from Jammu district, had gathered at the picnic spot and some of them were taking a bath under the waterfall.
All the 33 injured were admitted to hospital on Sunday evening and being provided free treatment by the Shrine Board.  Of them, five of the seriously injured are recuperating in Intensive Care Units while four of them were operated upon by the neurosurgery team of the hospital.
Five other victims,  who suffered fractures were operated upon yesterday while  rest of the injured are stable and would be discharged in due course, officials said.
Meanwhile, reports from Reasi said that some debris was still falling from the hillock at the Siar Baba waterfall site, which bears a deserted look since the mishap.
