JAMMU, Apr 22: Lavishing all praises on Civil Society of Jammu, Administrator Lakshadweep Farooq Khan today said that it deserves all appreciation in maintaining peace and communal harmony in Jammu region despite many provocations from across the border.
He was addressing a function at Amar Singh Club here, which was organized by Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society to honour him for bagging best overall performance in the Progressive India Report 2018 released by NITI Aayog.
He said Pakistan and its Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) tried hard to divide the people of the State on communal liens by attacking religious places of different communities but it was the Civil Society of Jammu which frustrated their designs by maintaining peace and communal harmony at all costs. “If we succeeded in taking on terrorism it was with the backing of the Civil Society’’, he added.
Maintaining that police and security forces would have not been able to achieve the desired results in combating terrorism had the civil society not been like a rock behind them, Farooq Khan said that the Jammu Civil Society deserves all praises and Kudos in this regard.
Khan also commended the role of security forces and State police who made supreme sacrifices in combating terrorism in the State over the years.
He, while highlighting his achievements as the administrator, said Lakshadweep has become 100 percent Open Defecation Free (ODF) and it has been fully Aadhar linked. He said “there was a concept earlier that a police officer can’t be a good administrator but after my taking over as administrator there this concept has completely changed and it is said that only a police officer can be best administrator’’.
He said “ as Lakshadweep is an Island but we have laid the water generation plants there’’.
He also hailed the Jammu people for maintaining peace and brotherhood at all costs. Later Mr Khan presented a Coffee Table Book on Lakshadweep to the members of J&K Civil Society.
The welcome address was made by convener Civil Society, Kiran Wattal. He, while lauding the role of Farooq Khan highlighted his achievements as administrator. He said with his excellent services as the Administrator of Lakshadweep he brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir State as a whole.
He also while highlighting the role and services rendered to the nation by former Chief Justice of Sikkim, Justice (retd) Permod Kohli who is presently chairman Central Administrative Tribunal said both Mr Khan and Justice Kohli are the sons of soil and people of the State feel proud of them.
Speaking on the occasion, Kuldeep Khoda former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, J&K said that it is an honour for the State that Mr Khan was chosen for the post of Lt Governor to Lakshadweep by the Central Government. He said his work as a police officer and as an Administrator is excellent. Khoda said that power has only advantage when a person utilizes it for the betterment of the people. The measures taken for the development of Lakshadweep by Khan and promotion of tourism in the Island are praise worthy and since he took over there is a sea change in Lakshadweep.
Justice (retd) Permod Kohli, Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chairman Central University Jammu and Padamshri Prof K N Pandita who also spoke on the occasion presented a shawl and memento to Mr Khan.
