Kavinder attends 5-day long CPA conference at Mauritius

JAMMU, Mar 26: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta participated in the bi-annual meet of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association held at Mauritius on the occasion of 107th year of its formation.
The Speaker also participated in the road show which was organized by the National Assembly of Mauritius and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) for providing the opportunity to young people and students to discuss issues concerning the democracy.
The CPA roadshow was also attended by Speaker Trinidad, Bridgid Annisette George, Deputy Speaker of Australia and CPA Treasurer, Vicki Dunne, CPA Secretary General, Akbar Khan and other office bearers of CPA.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta highlighted the importance of young people’s engagement in politics and the need to increase their awareness of parliamentary system and importance of democracy in sustainable development.
The Speaker also held a luncheon meeting with Head of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the Indian High Commission at Mauritius and discussed issues ranging from the democratic setup of various countries, CPA activities, Regional Conferences and the Global Tourism.
The role of commonwealth in fostering freedom of religion, the role of parliamentarians in implementing & monitoring the policies relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and radicalization of young people were also discussed in the meeting.
