JAMMU, Feb 3: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will press for holding of early Panchayat elections in the State instead of postponing them in tomorrow’s All Party Meeting (APM) convened by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.
The decision to this effect was taken in Party’s Core Group meeting held here ,today to discuss the party’s stand and view point on the holding of over due Panchayat elections in the State. The meeting was chaired by State president of the party, Sat Sharma and among others it was attended by Dy. Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh, MLC Ashok Khajuria, MP Lok Sabha, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Health and Medical Education Minister, Bali Bhagat, State general secretary (Org.) Ashok Koul, State general secretaries, Dr. Narinder Singh, Pawan Khajuria and Harinder Gupta .
The meeting decided that party State president and State general secretaries will represent the party in the All Party Meeting to put forth its stand in the meeting which will be attended by all the top leaders of leading political parties of the State.
The Core Group unanimously decided that the BJP holds a clear view regarding the holding of Panchayat elections in the State. The meeting was of the view that for the welfare of the people, it is mandatory to hold the elections in a time bound manner which will eventually lead to the decentralisation of power. It was also said that Panchayats provide the common masses an easy approachable level of administrative set up for addressing their issues and hastening of developmental processes in the State. So in the “All Party Meeting”, BJP will press for early Panchayat elections in the State, party spokesman said.
Sat Sharma in his address to the meeting said that the Core Group forms an indispensable leg of organizational working within the party which discusses all the essential issues from the top level to the ground level in hierarchy of party.
In the meeting the issue of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) was also discussed in detail. It said a void has been created after the death of Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Leh, Dr. Sonam Dawa who was the tall political and social personality as well as top leader of BJP there. It was also decided in the meeting that the Sat Sharma, Ashok Koul, Pawan Khajuria who also serves as Incharge Leh, Dr. Nirmal Singh and other top rung senior BJP leaders will visit Leh on February’ 6 to pay homage to the great leader. Besides, it will also discuss about the appointment of successor to Dawa to head the LAHDC.
