JAMMU, Feb 1: MLA Nowshera, Ravinder Raina today demanded creation of separate district for Sunderbani and Nowshera.
The MLA raised the issue during a Question Hour by raising a supplementary and said that the demand was raised in 1967 that Nowshera and Sunderbani be made separate districts.
H said the people in Sunderbani and Kalakote are also protesting for the same.
He said the creation of new district in the area is must as Sub District Hospital was established in Nowshera since. Moreover, the SDM’s Office was established in 2002. The SDM’s Offices also exist in Sunderbani and Kalakote, he added .
This area has three subdivisions and 115 panches and three municipalities with a population of over five lakh people. There are three brigades of Army as area is near the Line of Control (LoC) and hence deserves the district status.
Later the MLA called on Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and he also took up the issue with her. He submitted a memorandum to her regarding the demand and urged her that immediate steps be taken in this regard.
