KATHUA, Jan 29: District Congress Committee under the leadership of PCC general secretary Dr Manohar Lal Sharma and DCC president Ex- MLC Subhash Gupta staged protest demonstration at Hiranagar today.
The Congress activists were raising slogans against BJP Government demanding facilities for the border migrants at the camps. They accused the State leaders of ignoring the plight of border people.
In his address, Dr Manohar Lal expressed anguish over the act of Pakistan in targeting the civilian population including children and women. He said that intense shelling during last few days had caused colossal loss to life and property. He expressed deep anguish over total neglect and virtual abandonment of residents along International Border and Line of Control by the PDP-BJP dispensation, saying that the lofty promises of 2014 elections about shelter sheds, bunkers etc have proven just hoax.
He also lamented the BJP leadership for showing criminal indifference towards the suffering people, notwithstanding promises about their well-being and welfare made during electioneering.
Dr Manohar Lal said that Congress feels their pain and agony and wants the dark clouds hovering over the sky to evaporate soon so that people could live in peace in their homes.
Subash Gupta in his address said that their party demand of immediate construction of shelter sheds, bunkers, construction of flats at safer places for vulnerable segments of the forward areas, Rs 20 lakh compensation for those killed in firing and Rs one lakh for the cows/buffaloes.
He also demanded ownership rights to farmers who are in possession and cultivating the land for last more than fifty years. He also sought RBA status to border villages.
Naresh Sharma, Kulbir Singh, Vinay Sharma and Pankaj Sharma also spoke on the occasion..
