BAJALTA, Dec 19: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today called on Dogri scholars to better understand how the pristine glory of this rich language is restored in the larger interest of bringing Dogras, irrespective of religion, cast or colour together.
“While it is perhaps easy to believe or to sermonize that we should be speaking Dogri, the reality is that Dogras are shying away in making use of this language in homes”, Rana said at a function, organized by Dogri Sahitya Academy at Malhori in Bajalta.
He said much onus lies on the scholars, who are conscious keepers of the Dogra heritage, asking them to play their crucial role in promoting and propagating Dogri. He exuded confidence that harmony and reconciliation can be achieved as a result of reclamation of Dogri language. He said the Hindus, the Muslims, the Sikhs and the Christians are proud inheritors of the Dogra heritage and a collective effort is needed to make Dogri a day to day language.
“Dogri is our mother-tongue and we should leave no stone un-turned in promoting it at all levels”, the Provincial President added.
Rana said the best way of promoting Dogri would be to give impetus to this language at primary level in schools as also as a subject in higher classes. Besides, Dogri is needed to be promoted by organizing cultural events and literary festivals. He hoped the organizers would work towards this objective with sincerity of purpose and missionary spirit.
“We owe it to posterity to preserve Dogra language and bequeath it to future generations with a sense of pride”, the Provincial President said, adding that any laxity on this count cannot be forgiven. He said death of language amounts to the death of soul.
Later, the MLA Nagrota attended the Annual Day Function of Chetan Public School in Bajalta.
“Teachers have to be trainers at the initial level of schooling and imbibe a spirit of competition among students, especially when they are young”,  Rana said in his address to students, parents and faculty members.
He said times have changed and the parent-teacher combination has to maintain pace with the changing times in order to shape the destiny of younger people. He said good beginning is imperative for moulding the future of younger people. Though grooming begins at home yet the children remain greatly exposed to atmosphere at the places of learning, he said while urging the school management to bear this fact in mind.
