KATRA, Dec 18: Achieving another success in drive against intoxicants, Katra Police today seized three kilogram charas and 5 gm smack from six drug peddlers, who were smuggling it to the holy town.
The accused were held from a minibus, which they boarded after de-boarding their Wagon-R JK02AR-5014 near PCP Moorie in an attempt to dodge the Police party on naka checking there, informed SP Katra, Naresh Singh.
All the accused persons have been arrested and a case FIR No 234/2017, under Section 8/18/20 under NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra against them, he added.
On seeing the Police party, accused de-boarded the Wagon-R and boarded a minibus JK02AR-7197, which was also coming towards Katra. On checking of the said minibus, police recovered 80 `Challies’ of charas (3 kg)), and five gm smack from possession of the accused, who were identified as Shabir Ahmed, son of Sona Ullah of CM Road Srinagar, Mohd Altaf son of Abdul Karim of Dal Gate Srinagar, Mehraj Din , son of Ghulam Mohd of Rena Bari Srinagar (A/P Natipura Srinagar), Janak Raj, son of Sat Paul of Amb Gharota Jammu, Vijay Kumar son of Indru Ram of Neeli Pind, Tehsil Majalta, District Udhampur and Rohit Sharma son of Ram Krishan of Dera Baba, Reasi.
The arrest was made by SHO PS Katra, Inspr. Arvind Sambyal under the supervision of SDPO Katra Vinod Kumar and ASP Katra Naresh Singh.
Pertinent to mention that on the direction of SSP Reasi, Tahir Sajjad Bhat, a special drive has been launched against drug smuggling in the district and more particularly in Katra town.
