Artists from Tunisia enthrall audience with performance

JAMMU, Dec 18: International artists from the Republic of Tunisia mesmerized the audience through their enthralling performance here this evening at Abhinav Theatre Jammu.
Organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs, in association with J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, this was the 11th International cultural happening in Jammu after the coming of ICCR to Jammu.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Regional Director of ICCR J&K, Balwant Thakur, dwelt in detail about the activities and programmes of ICCR in J&K aimed at bringing world to Jammu and taking J&K to the world.
Introducing the International group ‘Chassen Azaiez and his Band’ from Sfax city of Tunisia, Balwant Thakur said that the group is born out of the basic idea “Spread music that not only draws upon the Arab music and heritage in general but the Tunisian in particular”. The group aims at the spread of the culture of hope and life so as to fight against all sorts of cultural apostasy and obscurantism.
‘Chassen Azaiez and his Band’ is composed of young musicians-talented, professional and of great repute in their fields, which makes them distinguished in many music events, whether on a collective or individual level. The team included Ghassen Azaiez (Oud), Chady Dammak (keyboard), Racem Dammak (Voilonist), Chaas Gomri (Nay & Baglama) and Hamdi Jammoussi (Percussion).
At the culmination of the programme the international artists were felicitated jointly by Regional Director ICCR Balwant Thakur and Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, Dr Aziz Hajni.
The show was ably hosted by Anil Tickoo and was coordinated brilliantly by Anmol Amla who himself is known artist of the State. AS Amn Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages presented the vote of thanks.
