Rajouri rape accused arrested from Mumbai

RAJOURI, Dec 14: A Police team from Rajouri today arrested a man facing rape and kidnapping charges from Mumbai, foiling his bid to escape to a Gulf country.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Ajaz Ahmed Malik, son of Rehmat Ullah,  resident of  village Faizlabad in Surankote tehsil of Poonch, was accused of  kidnapping and raping a girl from Rajdani village in Thannamandi area of Rajouri in July this year. He was on the run since then. A case FIR No. 67/2017 under Sections 366/ 376/109 RPC was pending against him at Thannamandi Police Station.
The district police received information that accused was trying to flee to  Kuwait  from Mumbai after which Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Thannamandi, Iftikar Chowdhary contacted Immigration officers there.
The accused had recently approached officials at the Mumbai Airport to travel to Kuwait. But authorities blocked his passport and informed the J&K police.
The official said that a team from the Thannamandi  Police Station in Rajouri district rushed to Mumbai. They arrested Ajaz Malik from there. He is being brought back to Jammu. Further investigation into the case was in progress.  SSP Rajouri,  Yougal Manhas has appreciated the efforts of the Police team from Thannamandi for prompt action.
