Army jawan arrested with 8 kgs Pak smuggled heroin worth Rs 40 crore

JAMMU, Nov 26: As part of its continuous “surgical strike” against the drugs traffickers, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) arrested an Army jawan along with eight kilograms of Pakistan smuggled heroin valuing Rs 40 crore in the international market.
This was stated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Dr SD Singh while interacting with media persons here today. DIG JSK Range Rafeeq-ul-Hassan and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta were also present during the media interaction.
He informed that on the specific information, a team from Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu and cops from Gangyal Police Station raised a checking point near Kunjwani and intercepted a New Delhi bound bus bearing registration number JK02BA-6749, which was coming from Srinagar.
During checking, police recovered eight kilograms of heroin concealed in a apple box and arrested a person, who has been identified as Mohammad Anwar, son of Mohammad Mishri, a resident of Lam, tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri.
“The arrested person was an Army jawan posted with 17 JAKLI at Kupwara and presently attached with Army Headquarters at New Delhi from the past two years and was travelling in the bus to deliver the consignment to his associates in New Delhi, but got nabbed”, IGP stated.

“The consignment was pumped in the State of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan to further disseminate it among the drug peddlers residing in various parts of the Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, etc to carry out their mission to destroy the future of the young generation of India by making them drug addicts. But with the continuous arrests of the drug peddlers along with large quantity of consignments have thwarted the nefarious designs of the narcotic mafias, who are engaged in this drugs trade”, IGP Dr SD Singh informed.
A case under FIR Number 90/17 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Gangyal and investigation started to ascertain the exact source of the consignment.
The whole operation was carried out by SP Operations Viney Sharma and assisted by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali.
Moreover, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station led by SHO Inspector Sunil Jasrotia arrested two inter-state drug peddlers along with 2400 intoxicant capsules. The arrested persons have been identified as Ashok Kumar, son of Jagpal and Ravi Kumar, son of Manoj Kumar, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
A case under FIR Number 222/17 under NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation of the case is going on.
