IT case against Akhilesh Yadav and wife dismissed

NEW DELHI, Nov 12: The Income-Tax department has lost a tax evasion case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav.
The Income-Tax Appelate Tribunal (ITAT), New Delhi, has dismissed the case holding that there was no possibility of use of black money by Mr Akhilesh Yadav and his wife.
In 2005, Mr Akhilesh Yadav and his wife had purchased prime land, 1A Vikramaditya Marg, Hajratganj in Lucknow from a Delhi businessman.
Interestingly it is not clear how much money was paid to the businessman by them.
Later on, the land turned out to be ‘nazul’ (government) land and for change of land use, the Yadavs paid Rs 44.67 lakh on June 23, 2005.
The money was deposited in the SBI branch and was withdrawn on the same day.
Suspecting the bonafides of the transaction, the IT department asked the Yadavs from where they got the money. Mr Akhilesh Yadav, who was an SP MP at the time, told the IT authorities that he had got a loan from SP.
The IT department is now planning to move Delhi High Court against the order of the ITAT.
Ms Dimple Yadav represents Kannauj constituency in the Lok Sabha.
