JAMMU, Oct 6: Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, G M Dar has banned any construction around the hillock of Jawala Ji Shrine in Khrew tehsil of the district and constituted a team to demarcate the area and land of the shrine.
Mr Dar told Excelsior that the step was taken following the complaints made by some people that the land of hill lock around the shrine is being encroached at Khrew. He said no encroachment of the hill lock will be allowed on which the holy shrine is situated.
The team will go through the records and after ascertaining the facts take a decision accordingly. However no body will be allowed to make any encroachment on the hill lock, he added.
Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust and various Kashmiri Pandit organizations including Jawala Ji Samiti Shrew led by M K Riana, Kashmiri Pundit Sabah (KPS) Jammu, Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust and BJP MLC Ajay Bharti have expressed serious concern over the encroachment of land at Jawala Ji Shrine and demanded its immediate restoration.
The president K P Sabha, K K Khosa took up the issue with Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri and sought his immediate intervention in the matter while the MLC Bharti urged the Government to ensure that the land of the holy shrine is not encroached.
Jawala Ji is a famous shrine in Kashmir which is the presiding deity of Kashmiri Pandits and people in large numbers visit the shrine every year to pay their obeisance.
The Dharmarth Trust secretary, Daulat Ram said that some people had started digging the land of hill lock near shrine and after the concerned Chowkidar noticed the same he informed police which took the timely action and stopped the digging and issued warning to the youth against trespassing.
