Gujjar women be provided education facilities: Hakla

POONCH, Sept 23:  Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual  has expressed concern over poor literacy rate among the women of Gujjar and Bakerwal community and demanded that concerted efforts be made by the Government  to improve the same.
In a statement issued here he said the Beti-Bachao and Bati Paraho slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi be implemented in letter and spirit in Gujjar and Bakarwal Bastis as even after 70 years of independence majority of the women the among Gujjar and Bakerwal have been deprived of this facility due to lack of proper arrangements of schooling in their localities.
He demanded opening of boarding schools for Gujjar bakarwals girls in the State.
Hakla also made an appeal to Women Commission in the State to take steps for the betterment and welfare of Gujjar women and destitute.
He said that problems and needs of Gujjars and Bakerwal women are of peculiar nature and quite different from other communities of the State as the language and culture of the community is also different than those of other communities of this State. Being different from other communities the Gujjar and Bakerwals mostly reside in hilly,  far flung and mountains areas as LoC so they need special attention also.
Hakla made an appeal to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to that a representation should be given to the Gujjar Bakerwal women in J&K Legislative Council and special package be sanctioned for their education.
