JAMMU, Sept 6: Members of Adarash Vihar Welfare Society, has urged upon the Minister Incharge Power, Dr Nirmal Singh to replace old and tampered electric meters with the new electronic meters to prevent power theft in Jammu city and other major towns of the State.
Chairman of the Society, S Balwant Singh (veteran social activist), said that not only in Adarash Vihar (Deeli), the power theft was continued in all other localities here due to nexus involving PDD field staff. He demanded that department needs over hauling, with the massive shifting of old staff to break nexus, replacing old meters with electronic meters and installing them outside the houses and shops/ building premises near entrance and totally discourage hook  (Kundi) system as going on in all the slum areas of the city’s and towns. This will bring transparency and reduce power pilferage.
Singh also  demanded that raids by PDD teams should also be conducted in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir and merely Jammu consumers should not be made target as they are already contributing major share of   Power revenue in the State.
