JAMMU, Sept 6: Jammu Heritage Society today demanded that birthday of former ruler of the undivided J&K State, Maharaja Hari Singh falling on September 23 be declared as a State holiday in view of his monumental contributions for the welfare of the people and protecting the age old ethos and culture of the State.
The Society said that the State Government should honour the resolution which has been passed by the Legislative Council in this regard.
The Society in its meeting held here, today said the Government should announce the July 23 as the holiday without any further delay and the Government should honour the resolution passed in the Upper House of the State Legislature. It said observing the birthday of Maharaja as State holiday will be a great tribute to the legendary ruler which is over due to him since long.
