Estates employees’ protest continues on 2nd day

JAMMU, Oct 30: Employees of the Estates Department held protest demonstration in support of their demands outside the office of Deputy Director at Manda on the second consecutive day.
The employees of the department under the banner of Coordination Committee of Estates Employees assembled under the leadership of Yash Pal Sharma and Prem Singh Bawa assembled at Manda office of the Dy Director Estates in the morning and sat on protest dharna. They raised slogans in support of their demands. They also shouted slogans against the Director, the concerned Commissioner and the Chief Minister.
These agitating employees are demanding reorganization of Estates Department, regularization of daily wagers and other consolidated workers, provision of two and half day’s additional pay, amendment in service rules, holding of DPC, construction of buildings for housing of the office of the Dy Director Estates near Shakuntla or elsewhere and construction of staff quarters, time bound promotion, clearance of SRO-43 cases, stoppage of policy of outsourcing of jobs and release pending wages of daily rated workers.
Later, in a meeting of the representatives of Coordination Committee including P S Bawa, Yash Pal, Puran Chand, Tilak Raj, Rashpal, Rajinder Singh and others, with the Director Estates and other officers, it was agreed upon by the Director to consider demands of the employees. On this assurance, the employees decided to suspend agitation for 15 days in view of the opening of Darbar Move offices on November 5.
