JAMMU, June 7: Jammu West Assembly Movement today held a protest demonstration against the Power Development Department for 15 to 18 hours power cuts and poor power supply infrastructure in Jammu.
Traders and local populace including children also participated in the protest, which was led by JWAM president, Sunil Dimple. The angry protestors raised slogans against PDD and blocked Janipur-Bantalab Road at New Plot for some time to express their anger.
Addressing the protestors, Sunil Dimple said that maximum temperature in Jammu is going above 45 degree and the PDD is accelerating the woes of people by imposing long duration power cuts ranging from 15 to 18 hours.
He further said that power supply infrastructure in Jammu city and particularly in the West Assembly Constituency is very poor, defunct and weak. He said the transformers of under capacity have been installed in the West Constituency which remain damaged due to excessive load and take days for the replacement.
Alleging that the Janipur grid station is 30 years old and has become totally defunct, Dimple demanded fresh and new installation of the 50 MWT receiving grid station at Janipur. He also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return the Slal and Uri Hydro power project back to the J&K state. He also demanded to start the new Subash Nagar grid station immediately so that load can be divided.
Dimple said the children, old persons, patients, women and traders are badly suffering due to low voltage, as due to low voltage and fluctuation in power, several electronic gadgets like fridges, fans, computers and TVs have damaged in several areas.
He alleged due to power failure, several areas are facing severe shortage of water, as pumping station cannot be run without power. He said that pumping motors at Shitali Filtration Plant at PHE Sub Stations remain off for long duration.
