JAMMU, May 6: BJP workers today hooted down former Minister and Congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak after the completion of function organized at Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar Auditorium in connection with the inauguration of Bikram Chowk-Convent Crossing Fly Over Project as he disrupted Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s address.
As the Chief Minister started her address to the gathering, Charak stood up from his seat and charged the Government with doing nothing to complete Mubarak Mandi Heritage Project.
He also wanted Civil Secretariat, the seat of the Government, to function in Jammu also saying the people from this region wouldn’t be able to go to Srinagar to get their work done in view of unrest in the Kashmir valley.
Mehbooba stopped her address for a while.
In the meantime, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, IGP Jammu SD Singh Jamwal and other officers intervened and made Charak to take his seat.
As soon as the function ended, the BJP workers were up in arms and shouted at Charak describing him as “traitor’’ saying he has embezzled the funds in Mubarak Mandi Heritage Project and should be booked.
Shouting slogans in front of Charak, the BJP workers wanted to know what he did for Mubarak Mandi project and retaining Civil Secretariat in Jammu when he was Cabinet Minister in Ghulam Nabi Azad Government.
Describing Charak as “spent force’’, who was trying to get “cheap publicity’’, the BJP workers said it was the BJP Government, which has taken up several developmental projects in Jammu.
Speaking to reporters later, Charak said he has forcefully raised the issues of Jammu as he found no headway in Mubarak Mandi Heritage Project and called for expediting work on it.
He reiterated the demand for running parallel Secretariat for Jammu to facilitate works of the people, who would be unable to go to Srinagar due to unrest.
Meanwhile, as soon as the Chief Minister’s address ended, few female contractual lecturers also forced their entry in the Auditorium and raised the slogans demanding their regularization.
They said they were on strike for past several days but the Government has refused to listen to their demands. They were persuaded by the administration and whisked away.
