Jammu coming up as hub of trading, economic activities: DyCM

JAMMU, Apr 10: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said efforts are underway to ensure that the trade and economic activities in Jammu region get the necessary fillip resulting in creation of job more opportunities and uplift of the region’s socio-economic profile.
The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with a deputation of the Warehouse Traders Association who called on him today to apprize him of the problems being faced by them.
MLA East Rajesh Gupta, Commissioner/ Secretary Housing & Urban Development Hirdesh Kumar, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Director Land Management, Jammu Development Authority and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister said the warehouse is one of the main trading centres in the State and is the nerve centre of Jammu’s economic activities. He said it would soon be given a holistic makeover so that the problems and other related issues being faced by the trading community are redressed holistically.
“Augmentation of the already existing infra of the warehouse would be done in order to provide the traders with all the modern facilities which would boost trading activities and also give flip to business in the area”, the Deputy Chief Minister said and maintained that the necessary instructions would also be given to the PDD to ensure that the area doesn’t face any inconvenience with regard to the electric supply.
Responding to other demands of the Association, the Deputy Chief Minister said a comprehensive plan would soon be formulated to cater to the provision of having extra godowns, 24X7 power supply, besides also looking into the issue of vesting ownership rights.
Meanwhile, Dr Singh said that necessary measures are underway to ensure effective implementation of R-APDRP so that power infrastructure of the cities and towns is properly augmented and people get adequate supply of electricity.
The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with officers during his extensive tour of the Jammu city to inspect the R-APDRP works and get the first hand information about the status of the project implementation.
Commissioner/Secretary, PDD Dheeraj Gupta, Chief Engineers and other senior officers of PDD accompanied the DyCM.
Dr Singh directed the officers to speed up the pace of execution of this prestigious programme so that it gets completed within the stipulated timeframe and people get benefitted. He said necessary monitoring is essential for successful implementation of the programme so that it is completed in consonance with the laid down guidelines and also public participation.
The works inspected by Deputy Chief Minister include 33/11 KV receiving station at Hakkal, Gandhi Nagar, Delli, Sainak Colony, Subash Nagar, Barnai and 10 MVA augmentation of receiving station at JDA complex, Railway Complex, Channi Himmat and Dennis Gate. He also inspected 10 KV CH3 and 11 KV CH5 feeders High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) and Low Tension (LT) cabling.
